Nested in picturesque green valley, on 300m altitude, just 3 kilometers from seashores, the campsite spreads on the grounds of traditionally built family farmhouse that includes small konoba/restaurant, museum of local artefacts and a bee farm.

Being in such beautiful location this camping ground has cosy and intimate feeling.

The campsite offers just basic camping facilities that include kitchen, toilets/showers, utility room, BBQs. Within the same establishment there is also a small side house with two bedrooms available for rent.

Families with children and pets are welcomed here as there is lot of grassed area for children to play on and enjoy nice and cool summer days and evenings.

Vrata Velebita it is an excellent base for country walks and hikes around Velebit Mountain, well known for its wild and untouched nature. Numerous mountain hiking routes to peaks of Velebit as well as less demanding cycle rides and waking routes are numerous in the area.  On just 5 minutes easy walk from the campsite there is a viewpoint which offers breathtaking vista over Velebit Channel and Zadar archipelago.

Being part of the south Velebit Nature Park, about 15km from Paklenica National Park, campsite Vrata Velebita is ideal place to enjoy by outdoor enthusiasts, hikers and walkers.

The campsite is easy to find (see map bellow) as it is located close to the main country road that leads to Velebit from Tribanj – Kruščica on the Adriatic coast.

The nearest larger places are Starigrad Paklenica (about 15km) and Zadar (about 60km).

Selection of campsites in vicinity of Plitvice Lakes:

• The nearest campsite to Plitvice Lakes National Park is Korana Camping – a campsite located just a few kilometres north of Plitvice Lakes National Park entrance, set on a plateau right above the Korana River Canyon. A large camping ground with a wide range of camping facilities, run by a local tourist company which can accommodate up to 2500 people.
• The most popular campsite in the area is Slapić Camping – a small, family run site, situated on about 55 km from Plitvice Lakes, can accommodate up to 200 people.  A well known and established camping ground that won several prizes for its attractiveness and quality of service.
• The cheapest campsite in the area is Radonja Camping– a recently established, small and beautiful, family owned site that can accommodate up to 40 people.  Offering peaceful camping on the idyllic banks of the river Radonja, 60 km from Plitvice Lakes.
• The limited facilities campsite in the area is Vrela Mrežnice Camping – an unconventional campsite, resting in the tranquil and idyllic Mrežnica River Canyon.  A stunning and unusual location on the river banks, with extremely basic camping facilities adjusted to “Robinson camping”. Limited availability of accommodation.
• The oldest campsite in the area is Camping Turist – established in 1968, run by a local tourist company, 8 km from the entrance of the Park and can accommodate up to 200 people in wide range of camping facilities.
• The newest campsite in the area is Camping Borje – the site with very good camping facilities, 15km from entrance to the Park, run by a local tourist company, can accommodate up to 350 people. Lovely location in the Valley of Lička Plješivica Mountain.

Above selection of campsites is made on basis that it takes up to an hour drive from the site to the entrance to Plitvice Lakes National Park. In my opinion, an hour drive is a reasonable distance for nice and relaxing day trips to the Park especially in spring, summer and autumn when days are warmer and much longer then in winter.  I would not recommend winter camping around Plitvice Lakes as the area is known for below freezing temperatures, lakes and waterfalls get frozen for months and camping is considered dangerous.

Being on just over 2 km from the entrance to the Park, the campsite is ideally placed for people who would like to visit the Krka waterfalls, Visovac , Skradinski Buk and Park with its surroundings.

Set in the shade of mature pine trees this family run campsite (see photo) covers the area of about 1 hectare.

The partially wooded Krka campsite can accommodate up to 120 people in 40 pitches some adjusted for larger or much smaller tents as well as for motor homes and caravans. There is also a selection of rooms and apartments available for renting within the premises.

The camping facilities include reception desk, children’s playground, access for disabled people, own small konoba/restaurant, Free WIFI, kitchen facilities, showers, washing machines and washrooms, electric hook-ups, toilets and chemical waste disposal. Parking places are available as part of the site. Pets are welcome.

The campsite also offers a selection of local, homemade food including vegetables, milk, cheese, cream, meat, wine, olive oil and similar. Fresh, homemade bread is baked daily on the premises.

Camping at Krka is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts – activities in vicinity of the campsite include numerous walking and hiking routes, cycling as well as swimming, rafting or kayaking on the river Krka. Day trips to Sibenik, Trogir and Kornati National Park are also available.  The nearest beach on the Adriatic Sea is 12 km away.

The campsite rests in the tranquil and idyllic Mrežnica River Canyon – a stunning and unusual location that offers peaceful and secluded camping in the untouched nature on the river banks, attractive waterfalls and clear spring water.

Camping facilities on the site are extremely basic, almost nonexistent, adjusted to so called “Robinson camping”

Activities in the area are numerous and will obviously appeal to nature lovers – walking or hiking along the river’s canyon, rafting, horseback riding, swimming, fishing or canoeing along Mrežnica River.

Vrela Mrežnice camping ground is popular as a day tip or weekend destination especially among people who try to escape the crowd of large cities (mostly Zagreb) in the summer months.

As campsite is situated on about 50 km from Plitvice National Park, visiting this campsite can be an interesting stopover while driving to or from the Lakes towards Zagreb or Adriatic.

The campsite is located in Mrežnicki Brig, a small village in Mrežnica valley in vicinity of Duga Resa and Karlovac.

Covering area of 3.8 hectares, the campsite is situated in a green and tranquil valley, spreading along the banks of gorgeous Mrežnica River and its 93 waterfalls  – note – ‘Slapic’ in Croatian means ‘small waterfall’ – hence the name of the campsite

Benefiting of such a stunning location, good sevice and its untouched nature, the campsite is one of the most popular camping grounds in Croatia.

Slapić has 48 pitches offering very good camping facilities that include electricity connections, kitchen, BBQ, wc/showers, wheel-chair accessible sanitary facilities, washing machines, tumble dryer, refrigerators and wireless internet access.

Small restaurant, children’s playground, tennis court, volleyball and badminton pitch are also in the near vicinity of the campsite.

It is located in the bay itself, on the very seashore, with small pebble beach in front of it, just few hundred meters from the centre of the village.

Lupis campsite, covering the area of about 5000m2, has capacity for up to 130 people, grouped in pitches with electricity connection, supply of fresh water and connection for sewage waters.

Been recently completely renovated, the campsite offers variety of camping facilities – kitchen, washing room, wc/showers, access for disabled people, as well as small children’s playground.

Campsite Turist is situated in small village Grabovac in near vicinity or Rakovica. Established in 1968, campsite Turist Grabovac is one of the oldest camping grounds in the area.

Being on just 8 km from the entrance to National Park Plitvička jezera, the campsite is ideally located for people who would like to visit the Park or its surroundings.

Landscaped by pine and fir trees (see photo) Turist covers the area of about 4 hectare. The campsite can accommodate up to 200 people in 50 pitches some adjusted for larger or much smaller tents as well as for motorhomes and caravans. There are also some rooms, mobile homes, camping trailers and tents available for renting.
